Book Corner

This is what I've been reading lately....

NOVEMBER 2012

I have just finished reading "The Tigers Wife" by Tea Obreht.

It was quite interesting, and when I was finished it made me sit and think back over the story for a while and put it all together. I would like to re-read this book, I have a feeling there would be quite a few things I missed the first time.  The book was very subtle in showing the effects of war on ordinary everyday citizens and children.
I like the idea of joining a book club, and I frequently choose books to read from book club websites, but in reality I don't think I would enjoy discussing books - too much like Year 12 English for my liking.  So my book reviews are purely based on how engrossing I found the storyline, rather than in depth analyses of character motivations and such.

OCTOBER 2012
Wow I have been slack - I haven't been keeping track of what I've read lately!.
I got the Stephen King book "Wind through the keyhole" for my birthday and read it in about 3 days. I really enjoyed it, but if you haven't already read the rest of the "Gunslinger" series I wouldn't recommend it.

I also started reading "Moonwalking with Einstein" which was very interesting, about people who train their memories and participate in Memory Olympics. I lost interest half way through though and had to return in to the library.

2012 - JANUARY TO JUNE
  • When God was a rabbit - very different.
  • Before I go to sleep - SJ Watson
  • Unbroken - Laura Hillenbrand -  a true story about an American Olympic runner who becomes a Japanese POW.
  • The Happiness Project - Gretchen Rubin
  • The long song - Andrea Levy
  • Maine - J Courtney Sullivan
  • The Life of Pi - Yann Martel
  • The Help - Kathryn Stockett
  • 11.22.63 - Stephen King
